# UpPromote Alternatives: The 300-Referral Cap Nobody Meters

The ceiling on [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp)'s $29.99 Growth plan is not the 2% it takes of referred sales. It is the line on the plan card that reads **"Review 300 referrals/month"**, read from the live listing on 8 October 2026. That caps referral \*approvals\* rather than orders, revenue or affiliates, and no competing app meters the same thing.

Which is why merchants mis-model it. [**GoAffPro**](https://apps.shopify.com/goaffpro) **publishes no cap at all.** [**BixGrow**](https://apps.shopify.com/bixgrow-affiliate-marketing) **meters referral orders on its free tier and stops at $19.99.** [**Affiliatly**](https://apps.shopify.com/affiliatly) **meters affiliates.** [**Refersion**](https://apps.shopify.com/refersion) **charges 3% instead.** Eight apps, seven meters, and the one you are leaving is the only one counting approvals.

UpPromote's free plan carries a different unit again: "Review $3,000 referral sales/month". Keep that in view.

## Key takeaways

- [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) Growth at $29.99 reviews 300 referrals a month, Professional at $89.99 reviews 600, and Enterprise at $199.99 approves unlimited referral orders. The cap counts approvals rather than revenue.
- Average order value decides when the cap bites. Three hundred referrals at a $25 order value is $7,500 in monthly referred sales. The same 300 at $200 is $60,000.
- A second ceiling sits at $17,000 a month in referred sales, where Enterprise becomes cheaper than Growth. At low order values the approval cap arrives first, at high order values the crossover does.
- GoAffPro's free plan states unlimited affiliates, unlimited revenue and unlimited traffic, and its $49 Premium adds no percentage. It is the only app here with no meter on any tier.
- [Simple Affiliate](https://apps.shopify.com/simple-affiliate) issues 1099 forms on its free plan. UpPromote generates them from Professional at $89.99.
- [ReferrLy](https://apps.shopify.com/affiliatery) renders no pricing panel at all. Its listing's pricing summary reads "Free", and no plan, cap or fee appears anywhere on the page.

## Seven meters, eight apps

Every rating, review count and price below was read from each app's live Shopify App Store listing on 8 October 2026, and each app name links to its listing.

| App | What the plan meters | Entry paid plan | Where the cap sits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| UpPromote | Referrals reviewed | $29.99 + 2% | 300 on Growth, 600 on Professional, unlimited on Enterprise |
| GoAffPro | Nothing | $49 flat | No cap published at any tier |
| BixGrow | Referral orders, free tier only | $19.99 flat | 50 orders and 30 affiliates on Starter; Scale removes all three caps |
| Refersion | Revenue, via the percentage | $39 + 3% | No volume cap; Launch states unlimited affiliates, clicks and conversions |
| Affiliatly | Affiliate count | $16 flat | 50 affiliates on Starter, 200 on Advanced, 500 on Professional |
| ReferrLy | Nothing published | No panel rendered | Not stated on the listing |
| Simple Affiliate | Affiliates, then payout method | $19 flat | 10 affiliates on Starter; paid plans unlimited, with a 3.9% Autopay fee |
| [Shopify Collabs](https://apps.shopify.com/collabs) | Payouts | Free to install | No volume cap; 2.9% on each automatic commission payment |

_UpPromote Affiliate Marketing's listing, read 8 October 2026: 4.9 from 3,863 reviews; Growth at $29.99/month, + 2% successful referral sales.._

Read down the second column. A merchant carrying "300 a month" over from [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) reads BixGrow's "50 referral orders/month" and concludes BixGrow is six times tighter. The two numbers count different things, and on BixGrow's $19.99 Scale plan the number disappears entirely.

## The cap counts paperwork, and your order value decides what that costs

An approval cap is blind to order size. Three hundred referrals is 300 referrals whether each one is a $25 order or a $200 one, so two stores on the same plan hit the same ceiling at wildly different revenue.

| Average referred order value | Referred sales at 300 referrals | Growth bill at that point | Enterprise bill at that point |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| $25 | $7,500 | $179.99 | $274.99 |
| $60 | $18,000 | $389.99 | $379.99 |
| $120 | $36,000 | $749.99 | $559.99 |
| $200 | $60,000 | $1,229.99 | $799.99 |

Now overlay the second ceiling. [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) charges 2% on Growth, 1.5% on Professional and 1% on Enterprise, which produces crossovers at **$12,000** a month in referred sales from Growth to Professional and **$22,000** from Professional to Enterprise. Set Growth against Enterprise directly and they meet at $17,000.

Those two ceilings arrive in different orders depending on order value, and that is the whole modelling problem:

- **At a $25 order value**, the approval cap binds at $7,500 in monthly referred sales, well before any crossover. You are forced up a tier by volume of paperwork while your bill is still $179.99.
- **At a $200 order value**, the crossover binds at $17,000, which is 85 referrals. You should have moved tiers on price 215 referrals before the cap ever mattered.

Low order value, the cap moves you. High order value, the arithmetic moves you. Neither event announces itself, and the plan card shows you only one of the two.

To be clear about what the cap is not: it does not stop referral orders arriving, and metering review work is a defensible way to price an app whose job includes fraud screening. A high-ticket brand on Growth will never see 300 approvals in a month and gets the cheapest serious programme in the category. Nothing below argues that such a store should leave.

## The seven alternatives, judged on how they meter you

### 1. GoAffPro, the only app with no meter anywhere

**Best for:** stores whose referral order count is high and whose order value is low, which is exactly the shape [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp)'s approval cap punishes. GoAffPro's free plan states unlimited affiliates, unlimited revenue and unlimited traffic, so 3,000 referrals a month costs the same as 30. Its listing is also the only one in this comparison naming Shopify POS and Shopify Flow, which settles it for merchants running physical locations.

**Not ideal for:** brands that came to UpPromote for creator vetting. GoAffPro has no creator discovery and no authenticity scoring, so recruiting partners becomes a person's job rather than a feature. Its rating is the weakest of the three category leaders, and the 38 one-star reviews behind it deserve reading before you migrate a live programme.

GoAffPro runs on 49,690 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 4.6 stars from 953 reviews on 8 October 2026.

**What to check before you commit:** Premium at $49 is flat and adds multi-level marketing, an affiliate portal on your own domain and advanced analytics. No percentage and no volume line appears on either card, and the two-card panel carries no "See all pricing options" link, which makes it the only complete pricing panel here.

### 2. BixGrow, metered on orders until $19.99 removes the meter

**Best for:** stores leaving [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) purely on cost. BixGrow's Scale plan at $19.99 states unlimited affiliates, programs and orders, so a programme doing 3,000 referrals a month pays $19.99 where UpPromote Growth would have forced two tier upgrades. It also credits a sale by affiliate link, coupon or linked email address, which catches the offline partners that link-only tracking loses.

**Not ideal for:** anyone paying a large roster immediately. Automated PayPal payout sits at $49.99, two tiers above entry, and the $29.99 tier below it sells PayPal \*integration\*. Budget from the wrong line and manual payouts become your monthly afternoon. The free Starter tier is a trial: 1 program, 50 referral orders a month, 30 affiliates.

BixGrow runs on 34,147 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 4.9 stars from 1,325 reviews on 8 October 2026.

**What to check before you commit:** the only caps BixGrow publishes sit on the free tier. Scale at $19.99 removes all three, and the tiers above it buy features rather than headroom. The four-card panel links out, so a tier above Advanced would not be visible.

### 3. Refersion, no volume cap and the heaviest percentage here

**Best for:** mid-market programmes where commission has to vary by product. Refersion's Growth tier carries flat-rate, SKU-level and tiered commissions, which is the fix for selling a 60%-margin product beside a 12%-margin one. Launch states unlimited affiliates and unlimited clicks and conversions, so there is no ceiling to scale out of.

**Not ideal for:** any programme with meaningful referred revenue. Launch charges 3% of affiliate-generated sales on top of $39 a month, which is the highest revenue share in this comparison, so at $50,000 a month you pay $1,539 where GoAffPro Premium charges $49. The free Marketplace tier also only lists your offer in Refersion's marketplace. It does not run your programme.

Refersion runs on 4,230 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 4.8 stars from 494 reviews on 8 October 2026, and the Built for Shopify badge is absent.

**What to check before you commit:** Refersion trades a volume cap for a percentage, so your ceiling is financial rather than operational. Growth at $199 plus 2% beats Launch at $39 plus 3% above $16,000 a month in affiliate sales.

### 4. Affiliatly, metered on affiliates with orders unlimited

**Best for:** programmes built on a short roster of partners who each drive real volume. Affiliatly prices by affiliate count and gives every paid tier unlimited orders, so ten affiliates producing heavy revenue make it the cheapest serious option in this comparison at $16 a month. It also tracks by link, QR code, coupon, email and SKU, the widest set of methods here.

**Not ideal for:** the opposite shape. Four hundred partners each sending a trickle puts you on the $39 Professional plan buying headroom your revenue does not use, which is the mirror image of [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp)'s problem rather than an escape from it. The 72-review evidence base is the thinnest among the self-serve apps here.

Affiliatly runs on 5,033 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 4.6 stars from 72 reviews on 8 October 2026.

**What to check before you commit:** the free tier covers 50 tracked orders, and every paid tier states unlimited orders with the affiliate count as the only variable: 50 at $16, 200 at $24, 500 at $39. Count your partners before you price it, because your order count will not move the bill.

### 5. ReferrLy, the best-reviewed app with no published price

**Best for:** a store willing to evaluate on the product rather than the price list. ReferrLy holds 5.0 stars across more than a thousand reviews, the strongest rating-to-volume combination in this comparison, and its listing names Appstle, Recharge and PayPal among the surfaces it works with.

**Not ideal for:** anyone who needs to budget before installing. **ReferrLy's listing renders no pricing panel at all.** No plan cards, no caps and no fees appear on the page, and the pricing summary beside the Install button reads "Free". A merchant leaving [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) to escape a cap cannot confirm from this listing that there is not one.

ReferrLy runs on 3,194 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 5.0 stars from 1,100 reviews on 8 October 2026, with three one-star.

**What to check before you commit:** everything. [Shopify's own App Store requirements](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/launch/shopify-app-store/app-store-requirements) state at 4.2.1 that apps must "Provide accurate and complete pricing information", and this listing carries none, so ask the vendor directly for the plan structure and any volume limits in writing.

### 6. Simple Affiliate, metered on affiliates and then on payout method

**Best for:** stores paying US affiliates real money on a budget. Simple Affiliate issues 1099 forms and bank autopay on its **free** plan, where [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) gates 1099 generation to Professional at $89.99. That is a $1,080 annual difference on identical work.

**Not ideal for:** a programme launching with more than ten partners. The free Starter tier states "Unlimited referrals up to 10 affiliates", so the eleventh affiliate costs $19 a month. Autopay bank transfers also carry an optional 3.9% fee on Basic and Pro, falling to 2.9% on Premium at $59, so the cheap plan taxes the payout rail that makes the app worth buying.

Simple Affiliate runs on 2,551 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 4.9 stars from 124 reviews on 8 October 2026, with no one-star reviews.

**What to check before you commit:** the meter moves from affiliates to payout method once you pay. PayPal and store credit payouts are 0% on every paid tier, and the percentage only applies to Autopay transfers, so the fee is avoidable by choosing a different rail.

### 7. Shopify Collabs, metered on payouts rather than on volume

**Best for:** a store whose [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) programme turned out to be a creator programme. Shopify Collabs is free to install, runs in the admin you already use, and publishes no volume cap, so scaling out of a tier never arises. Install it alongside whatever you buy, because it answers whether creators will say yes.

**Not ideal for:** running a tiered affiliate programme with payout automation. Collabs is scoped to creator partnerships, and its rating sits below every self-serve app in this comparison with 90 one-star reviews behind it. Treat it as a replacement for one part of UpPromote.

Collabs runs on 11,365 Shopify stores. Its live listing read 4.2 stars from 434 reviews on 8 October 2026.

**What to check before you commit:** the charges line reads "+ 2.9% commission processing fee on automatic payments may apply", and Shopify quantifies it in [its own guide to paying creators on Collabs](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/collabs/merchants/payments): "There's a 2.9% processing fee applied to every automatic commission payment, which is reflected in your Shopify bill", with the worked example that a $100 sale at a 10% commission attracts 29 cents. That is 2.9% of the commission rather than of the sale.

## Two things UpPromote's panel does not show you

The Enterprise card carries the line "For Shopify Plus, click 'See all pricing options'". A Plus tier exists and is not rendered, because the panel shows at most four cards. Whatever its cap is, the listing will not tell you.

The second thing sits on all four cards: **"Creator Discovery add-on from $39/month"**. The vetting that differentiates [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) is in no plan, including the $199.99 one, so a merchant weighing $29.99 against GoAffPro's $49 on creator tooling is really weighing $68.99 against $49.

One mechanic to check before switching anything: a percentage is levied on revenue the app attributes to a partner, and the attribution window is the vendor's decision rather than yours. Shopify's [billing documentation](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps) calls these usage charges that "vary based on how much you use the app or its services", and notes that apps billing on usage "can include a spending limit that prevents app charges from exceeding a maximum threshold".

## How to pick, in the order the numbers matter

1. **Count last month's referred orders.** Above roughly 300, Growth will not hold, and the cheapest escape is BixGrow Scale at $19.99 or GoAffPro at $49.
2. **Divide referred revenue by referred orders.** Above about $60 in average order value, the percentage crossover governs your plan and the approval cap never matters.
3. **Count your affiliates.** Under 50, Affiliatly at $16 is the cheapest paid plan here. Over 500, it is among the dearest.
4. **Check how you pay.** For US affiliates, Simple Affiliate's free 1099 handling undercuts [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp)'s $89.99 tier on the one job with a legal deadline.
5. **Install Shopify Collabs regardless.** It costs nothing and tells you whether the creator half has demand.

[The three-way comparison of UpPromote, GoAffPro and BixGrow](https://joy.so/blog/uppromote-vs-goaffpro-vs-bixgrow/) goes deeper on features across the three leaders, and [the full affiliate app comparison](https://joy.so/blog/best-shopify-affiliate-apps/) prices the whole category. If the programme you want is customers referring friends rather than partners selling for commission, [the referral app comparison](https://joy.so/blog/shopify-referral-apps/) covers the payout plumbing, with [the mechanics of a partner programme](https://joy.so/blog/referral-partner-program/) alongside, and [how to catch referral and loyalty fraud](https://joy.so/blog/loyalty-fraud-prevention/) covers the code-leak screening all eight listings sell.

One obligation does not move when the app does. [The FTC's endorsement guides](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/ftcs-endorsement-guides-what-people-are-asking) state that a partner paid a commission has a material connection that must be disclosed clearly and conspicuously in the post carrying the link, and that the advertiser is expected to train affiliates on disclosure and monitor what they publish.

## Frequently asked questions

**What does "Review 300 referrals/month" mean on UpPromote?** It caps how many referrals you can review and approve in a month on the $29.99 Growth plan. It caps neither orders, revenue nor affiliates, which is why it behaves unexpectedly for stores with many low-value referral orders.

**Which UpPromote alternative has no limits?** GoAffPro publishes no cap on any tier. Its free plan states unlimited affiliates, unlimited revenue and unlimited traffic, and $49 Premium adds features rather than headroom.

**Is there a cheaper alternative to UpPromote?** Several. Affiliatly Starter is $16 a month with unlimited orders and up to 50 affiliates, BixGrow Scale is $19.99 with no caps, and Simple Affiliate Basic is $19. None charges a percentage of referred sales.

**Does UpPromote charge a percentage on top of the monthly fee?** Yes, on every paid tier: 2% of successful referral sales on Growth, 1.5% on Professional and 1% on Enterprise, all read on 8 October 2026.

**Which alternative handles US affiliate tax forms?** Simple Affiliate issues 1099 forms on its free Starter plan. [UpPromote](https://apps.shopify.com/affliate-by-secomapp) supports W9 collection on its free plan and generates 1099s from Professional at $89.99.

**How much does ReferrLy cost?** The listing does not say. ReferrLy's page renders no pricing plan cards, and the summary beside the Install button reads "Free". Ask the vendor for the plan structure before migrating.

## Model both ceilings before you move

Switching an affiliate app moves live partner links, so this is worth getting right once rather than twice. Read the meter rather than the entry price, because the meter is what changes when the programme works.

Pull last month's referred order count and last month's referred revenue. The first tells you when the cap binds, the second tells you which tier is cheapest, and the two rarely agree.
