# A referral is only as good as where its link lands.

You run five markets. Slovakia, Czechia, Poland, Hungary, Croatia. One catalog, five currencies, five storefronts - and a referral program you were proud of.

So you did the obvious thing: a newsletter blast, every customer, "Refer a friend, you both get a reward." Clean campaign. Except your referral links all carried one prefix - `/sk/`. Your Czech customers clicked through to the Slovak store: Slovak language, euros instead of koruna, and a checkout that felt foreign. Your Polish customers, same. Four out of five markets got a link to somebody else's country.

The customers didn't email you about it. They just didn't convert. And a referral campaign that should have compounded quietly leaked most of its reach.

That's fixed now.

## Every customer's link, in their own market

When you turn on **multiple region rewards**, Joy now builds each customer's **referral link** for the market they actually belong to. A Czech customer's link points to your Czech storefront. A Polish customer at your Polish one. Right language, right currency, right prices — the moment they click.

It works whether your markets live on **subfolders** (`yourstore.com/cz/…`) or on their **own domains** (`yourstore.cz/…`). Joy reads the customer's market from their address, matches it to your Shopify Markets setup, and generates the link accordingly.

And it's **zero-config**. There's no new setting to find, no per-customer work. If multiple region rewards are already on, Joy regenerates your existing customers' links in the background and gives every new customer the right link from sign-up. Your next newsletter blast just works — each customer carries their own market with them.

## When you need to steer it

Most of the time, the automatic match is exactly right. When it isn't — a customer who moved, an address that doesn't tell the whole story — you can set it by hand.

Open any customer, and in **Membership details,** you'll see a new **Market** row: `Czechia (auto)` when Joy resolved it, `(override)` when you set it, or `Default` when the country doesn't match a market yet. Click the pencil, choose **Auto-resolve** or **Override**, pick a market, and save. The referral link regenerates on the spot.

One quiet detail that matters: this doesn't touch your **rewards**. The per-region reward amounts you already configured — `200 Kč` for Czechia, `15 €` For the EU, keep working exactly as they did. Markets decide the *link*; your region tabs decide the *reward*. Two independent systems, one toggle.

## Why is the link the campaign

A referral is a recommendation with a link attached. If the link drops your best customer's friend onto the wrong storefront — foreign language, unfamiliar prices — the recommendation is already half-broken before they read a word. You spent the trust; the link wasted it.

Getting the market right isn't a nicety. In cross-border commerce, it's the difference between a referral that converts and one that bounces at a currency mismatch. Every link now lands where it should, so the trust your customer spent actually reaches the checkout.

## Turn it on

If you sell through **Shopify Markets** and have **multiple region rewards** for your Referrals program, you already have this — Joy has regenerated your links. If you haven't turned on region rewards yet, you'll find it on the Referrals setup page.

It's on the **Essential**, **Advanced**, and **Ultimate** plans.

Your referral program was always meant to cross borders. Now the links do too.
