# Reward Frequency, Not Just Spending: Introducing Order Count VIP Tiers

## Why this matters

Recognize the customers who keep coming back. [VIP tiers in Joy](https://help.joy.so/membership/vip-tiers#set-up-tiers) now offer Number of orders as a tier calculating rule, so a customer moves up by completing more orders.

### Rank members by orders placed

A customer who orders often in small amounts moves toward the next tier with every completed order. This suits stores in categories such as cosmetics, pet supplies, and everyday essentials, where regular orders matter more than basket size.

### Give each tier its own reward

Attach an entry reward to every tier, such as a percentage discount, bonus points, free shipping, or a free product. Add automated notifications so customers know the moment they level up.

### Keep tiers tied to recent activity

Tier demotion works with order count tiers. Set an assessment cycle to review customer activity, and choose whether inactive members are downgraded or reset.

> **Try this**
> Choose Number of orders as your rule, then set the order threshold for Silver, Gold, and Platinum and add an entry reward to each tier.

## Good to know

Number of orders sits beside Points earned and Amount spent under Tier Calculating Rule. Each tier qualifies on completed orders, whatever the order value.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do cancelled or refunded orders count toward a tier?

No. Cancelled, refunded, and pending orders do not count toward tier progress. If an order is refunded after a customer reaches a tier, Joy re-evaluates the tier under your demotion settings.

### What happens to current members if I switch the rule?

Joy re-evaluates every customer against their order history and assigns each one to the matching tier. You can change the calculating rule at any time.

### Can I match the tier cards to my brand?

Yes. Set each tier's icon and card colors, and customize the discount code prefix on tier rewards to match your brand.
