# Your customer is in the cart with points they never spent

A customer has your cart drawer open. Two items in, shipping calculated, card ready.

They also have a points balance sitting in your loyalty program — earned over four orders, never once spent.

The redeem block was right there. It looked nothing like the rest of your store, the reward worth the most was three taps down a list, and applying it reloaded the page and dropped them back at the top of the cart.

*Not anymore.*

## Redeem in Cart is now its own surface

Redeem in Cart has been rebuilt, and it comes with a full-screen editor of its own — eight style presets, colors, fonts, borders and shadows, background patterns, and an icon you upload, generate, or hide. The block works in the cart drawer and on the cart page, and every reward applies without reloading the page.

It reads your storefront, too. **On-brand** takes your store URL and pulls back your colors, button style, corner radius and font — and can rewrite the card's copy in your store's voice. You review every detected value before it applies, the same way On-brand works for the Unified Widget.

## What you can build with this

**Open on the reward that actually saves them the most.** The card leads with the best reward for the cart in front of the customer, instead of making them price out a list of options.

**Let them choose how many points to spend.** Dynamic rewards get a slider, and an optional input for customers who would rather type the number. Spending is a decision the customer makes in the cart, not a fixed amount they accept or skip.

**Put free shipping where it gets decided.** Free shipping rewards now redeem from the cart, next to discount rewards — at the exact moment the shipping line is what the customer is staring at.

**Show the points this order will earn.** An optional row tells the customer what they are about to bank, so a redemption today does not feel like the end of the relationship.

**Make the card look like the rest of your store.** Start from Minimal, Editorial, Luxury, Bold, Brutalism, Playful, Tech or Botanic — then take it apart and rebuild it, down to the apply button and every label and its translations.

*The cart stops being where a discount gets typed in. It becomes where loyalty gets spent.*

## How to set it up

**Step 1 — Turn on the app embed.** In your Shopify Theme Editor, open **App embeds**, switch on **Joy: Redeem in Cart**, and save. Until it is on, the editor shows a disabled banner with a shortcut straight to the Theme Editor.

**Step 2 — Open the editor.** From your Joy dashboard, go to **Embedded content** and open **Redeem in Cart**. A live cart drawer preview sits beside every setting — switch it between Member, Guest, Not redeemed and Redeemed to check each state before anything ships. **Step 3 — Style it, then place it.** Pick a preset or run the On-brand scan, then choose where the block renders: above the cart summary, at a snippet you paste into your theme, or before any CSS selector you name.

If your customers never open the cart — buy-now buttons, straight to checkout — none of this reaches them. This block lives in the cart drawer and on the cart page, and that is the whole of its territory.

*New stores get the new Redeem in Cart by default. If your store is still on the classic block, its settings page now shows a "Try the new Redeem in Cart" banner: you ask support, and the switch happens on their schedule rather than yours. Your existing settings come across with you.*

## Redemption is where loyalty becomes revenue

Points a customer never spends are not loyalty. They are a balance sheet entry and a reason to feel vaguely disappointed in your brand.

Redemption is the moment the program stops being a promise and becomes an order — a bigger cart, a faster second purchase, a customer who now has a reason to come back and rebuild the balance they just spent.

The reward worth the most to that customer — the one three taps down the list — is now the first thing the card shows them.

**Open your points report and sort by earned-but-never-redeemed. Then go and look at where those customers were standing when they gave up.**
