# Store Credit on Every Order: The Reward Customers Actually Understand

## Why this matters

Give customers a purchase reward they can spend like cash. Joy's [Place Order program](https://help.joy.so/reward-programs/earning-programs/place-order) now offers store credit as a reward type next to points, so a completed order adds credit to the customer's account for their next checkout.

### Choose how customers earn credit

Give credit for every amount spent, once when spending reaches a threshold, per item purchased, or as a flat amount per order. Customers see a credit amount, with no points conversion to work out.

### Show the balance where customers shop

Earned credit appears in the Joy widget, on the loyalty page, and on the account page. Customers apply it at checkout on their next purchase, with no redemption code.

### Keep credit accurate after refunds

Joy can revoke credit automatically when an order is cancelled or refunded. Maximum earning limits and frequency caps work the same way they do for points.

## How to access and use

### Step 1: Open Place Order

In Joy, go to **Earning Programs → Place Order**.

### Step 2: Choose Store credit

Under **Reward Type**, select **Store credit**, and grant store credit access when Joy asks for it. You only do this once.

### Step 3: Set the rewarding method

Choose how credit is earned, such as a flat amount per order, then click **Save**.

## Good to know

Place Order is available on all plans. Store credit works with the program's existing options, including date ranges, VIP tier-specific rates, and conditional rules.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need Shopify Flow to give store credit?

No. Joy supports store credit natively in the app, so no Shopify Flow setup is required.

### Do shipping and taxes count toward the credit earned?

No. When you reward customers based on the amount they spend, Joy leaves shipping and taxes out of the calculation.

### Which currency does Joy use to calculate rewards?

Joy uses your store's primary currency by default, which is the shop currency set in your Shopify admin.
