# Turn Instagram comments into rewards — automatically

Ever seen a video on Instagram that says something like:
“Comment **DM** and I’ll send you the link.”
or
“Comment **INFO** to get the details.”

That flow works because it’s simple, natural, and already part of how people use Instagram.

Now you can do the same thing with **Joy** — and reward customers for it.

With **Instagram Comment Rewards**, customers can earn loyalty points simply by commenting on your Instagram posts. No forms, no extra steps, no friction. Just real engagement that turns into real rewards.

## How it works

A customer sees your Instagram post →
They comment a keyword (like “DM”, “LINK”, “INFO”, or any custom phrase you define) →
Joy tracks the action →
Points are automatically added to their loyalty account.

So instead of comments being just “engagement metrics”, they become **rewarded actions** inside your loyalty program.

More than that, we provide Shopify Flow triggers to seamlessly integrate and automate your workflow.

## Important note about rewarding points

To successfully **reward loyalty points**, Joy needs to be able to match the Instagram account to a customer record.

This means:

- The **comment detection** and **auto-DM flow** work normally for everyone
- But **loyalty points are only credited** when the customer has their **Instagram username (ID/handle)** saved in their customer profile

If the Instagram ID isn’t available, Joy can’t link the comment to a customer account — so the comment and auto DM still work, but the reward can’t be applied.

This keeps the experience seamless on Instagram, while ensuring rewards stay accurate and tied to real customer identities.

## What this unlocks for brands

For most brands today, social engagement lives in a separate world from loyalty.

Comments, likes, and replies are tracked as “engagement.”
Purchases, points, and rewards live inside the loyalty system.
Community happens on social platforms.
Loyalty happens on the store.

They rarely connect.

Instagram Comment Rewards changes that dynamic.

It creates a direct bridge between **social interaction** and **customer identity** — between what people do on Instagram and who they are in your brand ecosystem. A comment is no longer just visibility or reach. It becomes a real customer action that can be measured, rewarded, and connected to long-term relationships.

This matters because community building doesn’t start with rewards — it starts with **participation**.

People engage first.
They interact first.
They join conversations first.
They become customers later.
They become loyal customers much later.

By connecting comments to loyalty, brands can start designing experiences where engagement builds identity, identity builds relationships, relationships build loyalty, and loyalty builds community — not through campaigns, but through everyday interactions.

## From transactions to relationships

Traditional loyalty systems are transactional by nature:
Buy → earn points → redeem → repeat.

That model works for discounts and retention, but it doesn’t build belonging.

Community-driven loyalty works differently:
Participate → engage → connect → belong → return.

Instagram Comment Rewards is a small feature technically — but strategically, it represents a shift.

From **rewarding spending** → to **rewarding participation**
From **tracking orders** → to **tracking engagement**
From **programs** → to **communities**
From **customers** → to **members**

This is where loyalty starts to look less like a system, and more like a relationship layer between brands and people.

---

## A foundation for social-first loyalty

This feature also sets the foundation for what comes next.

Comment rewards are just the first layer.

Over time, this evolves naturally into: story replies
mentions
conversation flows
automated social interactions
identity-based engagement
community actions
social participation loops

In the same way tools like ManyChat changed how brands use comments and DMs for communication, Joy is building this layer for **loyalty, identity, and long-term relationships** — not just messaging automation.

Not just engagement.
Not just automation.
Not just rewards.

But a connected system where:

**social activity → customer identity → loyalty value → community growth**

## A milestone for Joy

Instagram Comment Rewards marks an important milestone for Joy.

It represents a shift from loyalty as a **mechanic** to loyalty as a **relationship model**.

From programs to participation.
From points to belonging.
From rewards to relationships.
From customers to communities.

This is how loyalty evolves in a social-first world.

And this is just the beginning.
