# Turn Instagram comments into rewards — automatically

## Why this matters

With [Instagram Comment Rewards](https://help.joy.so/reward-programs/earning-programs/social-activity/instagram-comment-rewards), customers earn loyalty points by commenting on your Instagram posts. You define the keyword, and Joy tracks each comment and adds the points to the customer's loyalty account automatically.

### Reward the comments you already ask for

Use the familiar "comment a keyword" prompt on your posts with any phrase you define, such as "INFO" or "LINK". Customers who comment the keyword earn points with no form or extra step.

### Automate follow-up with Shopify Flow

Joy provides Shopify Flow triggers for Instagram comments. A comment on a post can start a workflow, such as an internal email to your team.

### Connect Instagram activity to customer identity

Each rewarded comment is matched to a customer record. Engagement on Instagram becomes an action you can measure and reward inside your loyalty program.

## How to access and use

### Step 1: Connect Instagram

In Joy, go to **Integrations → Instagram** and connect your Instagram account.

### Step 2: Create the program

Go to **Reward programs → Earning programs → Add program → Social activity**, then select **Comment on Instagram** from the event dropdown.

### Step 3: Set keywords and points

Add the keywords that qualify under **Keyword filtering**, then set the points value.

## Good to know

Loyalty points are credited only when the customer's Instagram username is saved in their customer profile. Comment detection and the auto-DM flow work for everyone.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does a personal Instagram account work?

No. Instagram Comment Rewards requires an Instagram Business or Creator account.

### Can a customer earn points more than once?

Yes. Set the earning limit under **Anti-cheat** to once per lifetime, a number of times per period, or unlimited.

### Why is a customer not receiving points?

Check that the customer has entered their Instagram username, the Instagram integration is still connected, the comment passes your keyword filter, and the post is in your list when you use **Specific posts only**.
