# Let your best customers choose their gift — and earn it back every year

## Why this matters

Control what your VIP gift is and how often members can claim it. [Free product perks](https://help.joy.so/membership/vip-tiers/tier-privileges/free-product) now let members pick their own gift from a list you set, and a perk schedule can limit a tier perk to one claim per cycle.

### Let members choose their gift

Set Selection mode to let the customer pick, then define the product list and how many gifts they can take. Members choose inside the loyalty widget, tap Claim Gift, and the discount applies only to what they selected.

### Schedule how often a perk applies

Perk schedule sets a perk to Always active or Periodic. A Periodic perk is claimable once per cycle, and the cycle resets on a fixed calendar date each year or on a rolling period since each customer's last claim.

### Show members when the perk returns

The storefront marks the perk Available now while it is open, then shows the date it becomes available again once claimed. The cycle resets on its own.

> **Try this**
> Give Gold members one free gift per year. Set the perk to Periodic with a fixed calendar date, such as January 1, and let each member pick one product from your list.

## How to access and use

### Step 1: Open a tier

In Joy, go to **Membership → VIP Tiers → Tiers** and open the tier you want.

### Step 2: Add a free product perk

Click **Add Reward** and set **Perk type** to **Free product**.

### Step 3: Choose the Selection mode

Choose **Free specific number of products** to let the customer pick, then set **Number of free products**.

### Step 4: Set the Perk schedule

Under **Perk schedule**, choose **Always active** or **Periodic**. For **Periodic**, pick **Fixed calendar date** or **Since last claim**, then click **Save**.

## Good to know

Available on the Advanced and Ultimate plans. Existing perks stay Always active until you change them.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Perk schedule work on other tier perks?

Yes. Perk schedule works on every privilege type except Exclusive Products/Collections, including discounts, free shipping, and bonus points.

### Who can see the free product perk?

That depends on **Perk visibility**. **Visible to all tiers** shows it to everyone, which motivates lower tiers to level up, while **Hidden from lower tiers** shows it only to customers who have reached the tier.

### Can the free gift stack with other discounts?

Yes. Under **Combinations**, the perk can stack with Order, Product, and Shipping discounts, and all three are on by default.
