# Your loyalty emails, your brand — bring your own HTML, no separate email tool needed

## Why this matters

Every customer-facing notification in Joy now has two tabs on its edit page: **Visual Editor** and **HTML Editor**. Use HTML Editor to send loyalty emails in the same layout as your marketing emails, without a separate email tool.

### Paste the HTML you already use

Paste the template you use elsewhere, or edit the one Joy generates from your Visual Editor settings. Add your navigation menu and a footer with your social icons and store links.

### Keep each notification's own message

Place `{{content_body}}` in your HTML and Joy renders the message body from the Visual Editor there. Every Liquid variable that works in Visual mode also works in HTML mode.

### Apply one layout to every notification

Click **Apply to all notifications** and Joy sets HTML mode, with your layout, on every customer-facing notification at once.

> **Try this**
> Open your VIP tier upgrade notification, switch to **HTML Editor**, and add the navigation menu and footer from your marketing emails.

## How to access and use

### Step 1: Open a notification

Go to **Settings → Notifications** and open any customer-facing type.

### Step 2: Switch to HTML Editor

Click the **HTML Editor** tab at the top of the edit page.

### Step 3: Add your HTML

Edit the generated HTML or paste your own. Keep `{{link_unsubscribe}}` in it, because Joy won't save without it.

### Step 4: Apply it to all

Optionally, click **Apply to all notifications**. A confirmation shows how many will change.

### Step 5: Test, then save

Check the email with **Send Test** and **Preview**, then click **Save**. The mode active when you save is the one that sends.

## Good to know

The HTML Editor is available on every Joy plan. You own how the email renders across inboxes, so test in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and a mobile client before live sends.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will I lose my Visual Editor content when I switch?

No. Joy saves the Visual and HTML versions separately, so you can switch back and forth freely. The subject line stays a separate field in both modes.

### Which HTML elements does Joy remove on save?

Joy strips script, iframe, form, input, object, and embed tags, event handlers such as onclick, and javascript: URLs. Inline style attributes stay exactly as you wrote them.

### Can I go back to a clean starting template?

Yes. Click **Load default template** to refill the editor with HTML built from your current Visual Editor settings.
