Summarize this post with AI

At 2,000 orders a month, Appstle Loyalty costs $30, CWILL costs at least $69, BON and Joy cost $129, Smile costs $199 and Rise.ai costs $199.99. Push the same six to 10,000 orders and the bill becomes $175, at least $599, $129, $649, $1,124 and $999.99. BON gets cheaper than everyone by moving up the ladder; Smile gets eight times more expensive. Every figure was read from the live Shopify App Store listings on 8 October 2026.

That reordering is the point. Loyalty apps are sold as subscriptions and priced as metered utilities, and the meter runs on a different unit for every vendor. Smile, Joy, Rise.ai and Appstle meter order volume with a per-order overage past the allowance. BON sells an unlimited-order tier. CWILL sells order bands with no published per-order rate. LoyaltyLion publishes nothing above 500 orders. Govalo ignores orders entirely and takes a percentage of gift-card value on every tier, including the $399 one.

Key takeaways

  • The per-order overage in this category spans more than 13 times: 1.5 cents on Appstle Business Premium against 20 cents on Smile Growth and Rise.ai Starter, all read 8 October 2026.
  • BON is the only app here with an unlimited-order tier. Growth costs $129 at 500 orders and $129 at 10,000 orders, making it the cheapest published option above roughly 1,200 orders a month.
  • LoyaltyLion publishes two prices and no more: free to install at 400 monthly orders, then Classic at $199. Above 500 orders the listing sends you to a sales call.
  • Smile's App Store panel stops at Growth $199, while smile.io continues to Plus at $999 a month billed annually. Growth stops being the cheaper of the two at exactly 6,500 monthly orders.
  • Shopify allows an app up to eight public pricing plans, but the listing panel renders at most four, so on five of these eight listings the top of the ladder is invisible before you install.

Half of these listings are a truncated view of their own pricing

Before the arithmetic, one structural fact changes how to read every panel below. Shopify's developer documentation says an app "can add up to eight public plans", while the listing panel renders at most four cards, and no listing read on 8 October 2026 showed more than four. Shopify's own guidance tells vendors that "enterprise-level pricing plans should be referenced in the Description of additional charges section", which is small print under a card rather than a card of its own.

So Smile's four cards end at Growth and link out to a fifth and sixth tier, Appstle's end at Business Premium with a bullet reading "PING US FOR ENTERPRISE & UNLIMITED PLAN", BON's with "PING US FOR ENTERPRISE PLAN (API, SDK..)", and LoyaltyLion names Advanced and Plus without pricing either. For four of these eight apps, the plan a large brand would actually buy has no published price anywhere.

CWILL adds a third wrinkle: its Growth card reads "Tiered pricing: 500–3,000 orders/pm, from $69/pm" on the CWILL Loyalty listing, and the word "from" is doing real work. A 600-order brand and a 2,900-order brand both sit inside Growth, and the listing does not say what either pays.

What each app costs at 500, 2,000 and 10,000 monthly orders

Each figure is the cheapest published plan covering that volume, with overage added where a per-order rate exists. Read from the live Shopify App Store listings on 8 October 2026, except Smile's Plus tier, read from smile.io/pricing the same day.

Govalometers gift-card value, not orders

The spread at 500 orders is 20 times, from Appstle's $10 to LoyaltyLion's $199. At 10,000 orders it narrows to 8.7 times, from BON's $129 to Smile's $1,124, and the ordering flips: Smile is second-cheapest at 500 orders and the most expensive at 10,000. The reason is the overage.

App and planIncluded allowanceOverage per order

Joy Ultimate, $4997,000 orders5 cents
Smile Plus, $999 billed annually7,500 orders5 cents

Rise.ai Small-Business, $59.99400 total store orders15 cents
Smile Growth, $1992,500 orders20 cents
Rise.ai Starter, $19.99100 total store orders20 cents

BON publishes no rate because Growth is unlimited, CWILL publishes bands, LoyaltyLion publishes nothing above 500 orders, and Govalo meters value.

Two readings change the picture. Smile Growth includes 2,500 orders for $199, an effective 8 cents an order, then charges 20 cents for every order past it, so the marginal order costs 2.5 times the average one. And Rise.ai's allowance is not what it appears: the Rise.ai listing reads "2000 Monthly Total Store Orders Included", a meter counting every order your brand takes, not the ones touching a gift card or a store credit.

Where upgrading starts saving money

None of these vendors publishes the crossover. All of them have one.

  • Smile, Growth to Plus: exactly 6,500 orders. Growth at $199 plus 4,000 overage orders at 20 cents equals $999, which is Plus. At 10,000 orders Plus is $575 a month cheaper.
  • Joy, Advanced to Ultimate: 5,700 orders, where Advanced plus overage reaches Ultimate's flat $499.
  • Rise.ai, Starter to Small-Business: 300 orders, where both cost $59.99. Above 300 the $19.99 entry plan is never Rise.ai's cheapest plan again.

The sections below run in order of install base, which measures adoption rather than fit.

1. Smile — the largest install base and the steepest high-volume bill

Best for: brands under about 2,500 monthly orders that want VIP tiers, checkout redemption and 25-plus pre-built reports without configuring anything. Growth bundles the full feature set at a flat $199, which at exactly 2,500 orders is 8 cents an order, the best value inside Smile's own ladder. Full branding and 20-plus languages on the free plan also make it the cheapest multi-market launch here.

Not ideal for: brands growing through 3,000 orders a month on a monthly budget. The 20 cent Growth overage takes a 5,000-order brand to $699 and a 7,500-order brand to $1,199, and the plan that fixes it is billed annually at $999 a month: an $11,988 commitment with no warning on the App Store panel that it exists.

Smile: Loyalty Program Rewards listing on the Shopify App Store
Smile: Loyalty Program Rewards's listing, read 8 October 2026: 4.9 from 4,622 reviews; Essential at $15/month, Up to 500 monthly orders.

Smile runs on 57,813 live Shopify stores. The Smile listing read 4.9 stars from 4,622 reviews on 8 October 2026, 69 of them one-star.

What it actually does

  • Fifteen-plus ways to earn and redeem, full branding, 20-plus languages and Shopify POS on the free plan. Appstle gates POS to $10, BON to $29.
  • Loyalty Hub, checkout redemption for Shopify Plus, VIP tiers, points expiry and unlimited integrations, all from Growth $199.

What to check before you commit

The Standard-to-Growth gap is the trap. Standard covers 1,000 monthly orders for $79 with no published overage, so a brand at 1,100 orders moves to Growth at $199: 2.5 times the bill for 100 extra orders. VIP tiers also sit on Growth, so a 300-order brand that wants tiers pays the same $199 as a 2,500-order brand.

2. Appstle Loyalty — the cheapest ladder in the category

Best for: brands that want to buy loyalty software rather than loyalty consulting. Business covers 2,000 monthly orders for $30, a sixth of Smile at the same volume, and the 1.5 cent Business Premium overage is the lowest published rate here by a factor of three. Brands at 5,000 to 15,000 orders a month save four figures monthly against the order-metered alternatives.

Not ideal for: brands needing headless support or API access with a price attached. The panel ends at Business Premium $100 with the bullet "PING US FOR HYDROGEN, APIs & WEBHOOK", so the one line a developer-led brand must budget for is the one with no number.

Appstle Loyalty Program Reward listing on the Shopify App Store
Appstle Loyalty Program Reward's listing, read 8 October 2026: 5.0 from 1,418 reviews; STARTER at $10/month, Plan applicable until your store reaches 500 orders in a month. No extra charges..

Appstle Loyalty runs on 27,390 live Shopify stores. The Appstle Loyalty listing read 5.0 stars from 1,418 reviews on 8 October 2026.

What it actually does

  • Loyalty pages, store credit, performance analytics and data exports on the free plan. Smile, BON and Joy all gate analytics.
  • VIP program, custom points expiration, free-product redemption and bulk points automations from Business $30, the cheapest published VIP tier price in this set.

What to check before you commit

Appstle's limits are sentences, not fields, and they differ in kind. Starter and Business read "Plan applicable until your store reaches 500 orders in a month. No extra charges", a ceiling with no meter, so crossing it moves a whole tier. Business Premium is the only Appstle plan with an overage. Annual billing takes 20% off every paid tier, the largest published annual discount here: $96 for Starter, $288 for Business, $960 for Business Premium.

3. LoyaltyLion — the largest free-to-paid step in the category

Best for: brands under 400 monthly orders that want on-site loyalty analytics and customer segments at no cost, and brands comfortable at $199 who want the done-for-you work inside Classic: a loyalty page design the listing values at $1,500, Klaviyo flows built for them, and onboarding support. Where the constraint is internal capacity rather than budget, that bundle is the argument.

Not ideal for: brands between 400 and 2,000 monthly orders on a software budget. Crossing 400 orders takes you from $0 to $199, and the $199 plan buys only 100 more orders of headroom before its own note sends you to a sales call. Smile's equivalent step is $15 and Appstle's is $10, and this one lands exactly when a programme is starting to prove itself.

LoyaltyLion Loyalty Program listing on the Shopify App Store
LoyaltyLion Loyalty Program's listing, read 8 October 2026: 4.6 from 544 reviews; Classic at $199/month, Doing more than 500 orders per month? Chat to us to get a custom quote for our Advanced or Plus plans.

LoyaltyLion runs on 6,659 live Shopify stores. The LoyaltyLion listing read 4.6 stars from 544 reviews on 8 October 2026, with 30 one-star and 11 two-star reviews, the weakest distribution of any major loyalty app measured that day.

What it actually does

  • Loyalty analytics, customer segments, points for on-site activities, on-site notifications and seven pre-written languages on the free plan.
  • VIP loyalty tiers, POS locations, unlimited integrations and loyalty-attributed revenue reporting, all from Classic $199.

What to check before you commit

Read the free plan's last feature line, which says "Optional enhancements including emails" and does not price them. Automated email is the mechanism that makes a points programme work, so establish that cost before planning around the free tier.

Then read the Classic card's additional-charges line, which is the real pricing statement: "Doing more than 500 orders per month? Chat to us to get a custom quote for our Advanced or Plus plans". The published ladder ends at 500 orders, and above that this is a quoted product being compared against vendors who publish.

4. Joy — mid-priced at low volume, mid-priced at high volume

Best for: brands that need mechanics Shopify does not provide natively and want them priced before a sales call. Advanced at $129 covers 2,000 monthly orders and publishes B2B and wholesale tiers, a custom-earning rule engine, Wallet passes, paid memberships and a POS loyalty extension. Ultimate at $499 publishes a developer toolkit, JS SDK and REST API with a price attached, which four of these eight apps do not.

Not ideal for: brands optimising purely on price. The first paid step is $29, the most expensive opening paid tier of any app here with a free plan, and the Essential overage of 15 cents an order is joint-highest at entry level. A brand that wants points and referrals and nothing else pays less on Appstle at every volume in the table above.

Joy Loyalty Program Rewards listing on the Shopify App Store
Joy Loyalty Program Rewards's listing, read 8 October 2026: 4.9 from 1,792 reviews; Essential at $29/month, 500 monthly orders, then +$15 per 100 orders.

Joy runs on 6,532 live Shopify stores, and publishes its own figure of more than 10,000 stores. The install counts in this article come from the same third-party measurement for every app, so the comparison stays like for like. The Joy listing read 4.9 stars from 1,792 reviews on 8 October 2026.

What it actually does

  • Points, referrals with fraud prevention and a unified loyalty widget on the free Starter plan at 250 monthly orders.
  • VIP tiers plus B2B tiers, bonus point campaigns, cart-drawer redemption, Wallet passes and paid memberships from Advanced $129.

What to check before you commit

The Advanced-to-Ultimate crossover sits at 5,700 monthly orders. Below it Advanced is cheaper even carrying overage; above it, upgrading cuts the bill and widens the allowance at once. Price the tier your integrations live on, too, because Essential's 30-plus integrations and Ultimate's unlimited integrations plus REST API are different purchases. For a headless build, the only plan that covers you is $499.

5. BON — the only unlimited-order tier here

Best for: brands above roughly 1,500 monthly orders that want the software bill to stop moving. Growth is $129 a month for unlimited monthly orders, so a 3,000-order brand and a 30,000-order brand pay the same and the budget line becomes a constant. Above about 1,200 orders it is the cheapest published option here.

Not ideal for: brands needing API access, an SDK or headless support. The panel ends at Growth with "PING US FOR ENTERPRISE PLAN (API, SDK..)", so the unlimited-order tier is also the end of the published road.

BON Loyalty Program & Rewards listing on the Shopify App Store
BON Loyalty Program & Rewards's listing, read 8 October 2026: 5.0 from 1,952 reviews; Starter at $15/month, Up to 300 monthly orders.

BON runs on 5,680 live Shopify stores. The BON listing read 5.0 stars from 1,952 reviews on 8 October 2026.

What it actually does

  • Checkout redemption for Shopify Plus on the free plan, plus an anti-cheat referral programme and automated emails. Every other app here charges for checkout redemption, from $100 on Appstle to $599 on CWILL.
  • VIP tiers plus B2B tiers, purchase-streak points, daily check-in points and anniversary rewards from Growth $129.

What to check before you commit

Unlimited volume and enterprise capability are sold separately here: the order meter stops at $129, the feature ladder does not. The free tier is also narrower than its 150-order cap implies. With no loyalty page, no analytics and no POS, it is a mechanic rather than a programme, and the first genuinely useful step is Basic at $29.

6. Rise.ai — priced on your whole order volume, not your gift-card volume

Best for: brands building store-credit-led retention under about 400 monthly total orders, where $19.99 or $59.99 buys an advanced gift-card programme, manual store-credit issuance and referrals. Rise.ai is also the only app here taking no percentage of gift-card value, so a brand selling many gift cards on a modest order count pays a fraction of what a percentage vendor charges.

Not ideal for: high-order brands with modest gift-card activity. The allowance counts total store orders, so a 10,000-order brand pays $999.99 on Pro whether it issued 50 store credits or 5,000. The storefront control named "Apply Store Credit Button" also sits on Pro at $199.99, which means the cheaper plans sell issuance without the spending mechanism.

The Rise.ai listing read 4.7 stars from 759 reviews on 8 October 2026, 23 of them one-star.

What it actually does

  • An advanced gift-card programme, manual store-credit issuance and referrals on Starter $19.99; the Apply Store Credit Button and bulk gift-card creation from Pro $199.99.
  • Integrations with Klaviyo, Attentive, Gorgias, Loop Returns, AfterShip and Tapcart, the widest returns-and-support list in this set.

What to check before you commit

Count total monthly orders, not gift-card orders, then price all three plans. At 1,200 orders Starter costs $239.99, Small-Business costs $179.99 and Pro costs $199.99, so the middle plan wins and the entry plan is the most expensive of the three. The panel shows three plans and links out: Rivo publishes a range of "$19.99-$599.99/month" for Rise.ai, so a tier above Pro exists that the listing does not render.

7. CWILL Loyalty — band pricing, and an 8.7 times step at the top

Best for: brands under 500 monthly orders that want a complete points, referral and VIP programme at the bottom of the market. Starter is $19 for up to 200 orders and $29 for up to 500, and Growth at $69 adds VIP tiers, a loyalty page and points expiration. Between 500 and 3,000 orders, $69 is the lowest published entry to a tiered programme here.

Not ideal for: brands needing API access or checkout extensions. Both sit on Plus at $599, an 8.7 times step from Growth's $69 floor with nothing published between, and the Plus note reads "Final pricing varies based on each merchant's requirements and usage", which makes $599 a starting figure. The free plan's 50-order cap is the tightest in the category.

CWILL Loyalty & Referrals listing on the Shopify App Store
CWILL Loyalty & Referrals's listing, read 8 October 2026: 4.9 from 810 reviews; Starter at $19/month, $19/pm for stores with up to 200 orders/pm, or $29/pm for up to 500 orders/pm..

CWILL Loyalty runs on 3,115 live Shopify stores. The CWILL Loyalty listing read 4.9 stars from 810 reviews on 8 October 2026.

What it actually does

  • A points and referral programme with limited-time offers and custom CSS on the free plan at 50 monthly orders.
  • VIP programme, customer account extension, loyalty page and points expiration from Growth $69; API access, checkout extensions and custom data export from Plus $599.

What to check before you commit

The Starter card says $19 a month. Its own additional-charges line says "$19/pm for stores with up to 200 orders/pm, or $29/pm for up to 500 orders/pm", so a brand at 400 orders budgeting from the headline is 53% under. Read the small line on every card, because CWILL puts the real price there on three of its four plans.

This listing also changed name. It now reads CWILL Loyalty, the description says "CWILL Loyalty (formerly Loloyal)", and four sibling apps carry the new prefix, including CWILL Order Tracking, formerly ParcelPanel.

8. Govalo — a percentage of gift-card value on every published tier

Best for: Shopify Plus brands running gift cards as a merchandising channel rather than a payment type, where giftable subscriptions, giftable products, corporate gifting and an out-of-stock integration that sells a gift card when a product is unavailable are the point. That mechanic turns a lost sale into prepaid revenue, and no other app in this comparison lists it.

Not ideal for: any brand with meaningful gift-card volume and a fixed software budget. The percentage applies on all three tiers and never reaches zero, so the bill scales with prepaid liability rather than margin. The brand already pays card processing on the gift-card sale, so the same dollars are charged twice before a product ships.

Govalo: Branded Gift Cards listing on the Shopify App Store
Govalo: Branded Gift Cards's listing, read 8 October 2026: 4.1 from 25 reviews; Premium at $79/month, 2.25% total gift card value.

Govalo runs on 1,404 live Shopify stores. The Govalo listing read 4.1 stars from 25 reviews on 8 October 2026, and 6 of those 25 were one-star, which is 24% of a thin record.

What it actually does

  • Customised gift-card sales, scheduled delivery, direct-to-recipient sending and the out-of-stock integration on the free-to-install Essential tier.
  • A customised redemption page, a balance lookup tool and Klaviyo from Premium $79; API access, white-glove service and a negotiable volume rate from Enterprise $399.

What to check before you commit

Do the percentage arithmetic at your own gift-card volume, because the cheapest tier moves. At $20,000 a month in gift-card value, Essential costs $580, Premium costs $529 and Enterprise costs $699. Premium only beats Essential above about $12,150 a month, and Enterprise only beats Premium above about $42,700 a month, roughly $512,000 of gift-card value a year. The rate is negotiable on exactly one tier, so if 2.25% is the objection, the lever exists only at $399.

How to price your own number

Three inputs decide this, in this order.

Start with monthly order count, not plan preference. Every order-metered vendor here changes rank between 500 and 10,000 orders, so price your real volume on all three tiers of any app you shortlist, including the tier above the one you think you need.

Then find the feature forcing your hand. VIP tiers cost $30 on Appstle, $69 on CWILL, $129 on BON and Joy, and $199 on both Smile and LoyaltyLion, whatever your volume. Checkout redemption is free on BON, $100 on Appstle, $199 on Smile and $599 on CWILL. API access is $499 on Joy, $599 on CWILL and unpriced on Appstle, BON and Smile. One of those is usually the real reason you are shopping, and it sets your floor more firmly than order count does.

Then price the overage, not the plan. The gap between a 1.5 cent and a 20 cent overage is $1,850 a month at 10,000 orders, larger than any plan-price difference here and absent from every headline.

Harvard Business Review's summary of the retention research puts acquiring a customer at five to 25 times the cost of keeping one, and cites Frederick Reichheld's finding at Bain that lifting retention 5% raises profit 25% to 95%. Against those numbers almost any plan here pays for itself, which is exactly why merchants overpay without noticing.

For costs beyond the subscription, see what a loyalty programme actually costs and how to cost a loyalty point. For capability rather than price, the Shopify loyalty app round-up covers the same apps and loyalty programme ROI covers how to judge the spend.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Shopify loyalty app cost per month? At 2,000 monthly orders the published prices on 8 October 2026 ran from $30 on Appstle Loyalty to $199.99 on Rise.ai, with BON and Joy at $129 and Smile at $199. Free tiers exist on Smile, Appstle, BON, CWILL, Joy and LoyaltyLion, capped between 50 and 400 monthly orders.

Which Shopify loyalty app is cheapest at high volume? BON, at $129 a month on Growth, which includes unlimited monthly orders. Appstle Loyalty is second at $175 for 10,000 orders, because Business Premium includes 5,000 orders at $100 and charges 1.5 cents for each additional order.

What is an overage charge on a loyalty app? A per-order fee on every order above your plan's included allowance. Rates published on 8 October 2026 ran from 1.5 cents on Appstle Business Premium to 20 cents on Smile Growth and Rise.ai Starter, a difference worth about $1,850 a month at 10,000 orders.

Why is enterprise loyalty pricing missing from App Store listings? Partly by platform design. Shopify allows an app up to eight public pricing plans, but the listing panel renders at most four cards, and Shopify's own guidance tells vendors to reference enterprise plans in the additional-charges text instead. Five of the eight apps here show a truncated ladder.

Does percentage-based pricing work out cheaper? Rarely, once volume is real. Govalo charges 2.9% of gift-card value free to install, 2.25% at $79 and 1.5% at $399, so a brand selling $100,000 of gift cards a month pays $1,899 on its cheapest available tier. An order-metered app charging $129 for unlimited orders costs the same at any gift-card volume.

Do VIP tiers require a paid plan? Yes, on every app here. The cheapest published price on 8 October 2026 was $30 on Appstle Business, then $69 on CWILL Growth, $129 on BON Growth and Joy Advanced, and $199 on both Smile Growth and LoyaltyLion Classic. Tier pricing is set by plan rather than by order volume, so a 300-order brand pays what a 2,500-order brand pays.
