Why this matters
Store credit in Joy can now expire after a window you choose. Set one global default for every store credit program, then override it on any program that needs a different rule.
Set one default for every program
Turn on store credit expiration once and pick a duration, such as 30 days, 6 months, or a year. Place Order, Referral, and Milestone programs inherit it automatically.
Override the window per program
Each program that rewards store credit has its own expiry toggle, and it always wins over the global default. Turn it on to give that program its own duration, or off so its credit never expires.
Keep unredeemed credit bounded
Unredeemed store credit sits on your books as a liability. An expiration window keeps it bounded and predictable, with nothing to chase manually.
Set a 90-day expiry on your Place Order rewards and leave referral credit with no expiry. Both rules run side by side.
How to access and use
Step 1: Set the global default
Go to Reward programs → Point Expiration, turn on Store credit expiration, and pick a duration.
Step 2: Override a program
Open any Place Order, Referral, or Milestone program that rewards store credit and set its own store credit expiration toggle.
Step 3: Let it run
Every new store credit reward now carries its expiry date, and customers can see it in their activity history.
Frequently asked questions
Can I adjust a customer's store credit manually?
Yes. Adjust one customer on the Customer detail page, or many at once with the Import action in the Customers list. Every change is recorded in the Activity log.
Does expiration apply to credit added manually or by import?
Yes. Expiration covers store credit from admin adjustments and CSV import, as long as the credit is granted after you turn expiration on.
What happens to store credit when an order is refunded?
The store credit used on that order returns to the customer's balance, and the change appears in their Activity log.
