Why this matters
Joy used to mark a customer as subscribed in Shopify the moment they ticked the box, before any confirmation email. A new store-wide setting hands that decision to the app that owns your subscriptions.
Your double opt-in stays in control
With Let another app manage email marketing consent on, Joy stops changing a customer's email subscription status in Shopify. Klaviyo or your own flow marks them as subscribed after they confirm.
The newsletter reward keeps working
Joy still shows your Newsletter program and gives the reward once Shopify reports the customer as subscribed, whether they confirm in minutes or days.
No app to connect
Joy doesn't need to know which app handles the subscription. The setting is off by default, so nothing changes until you turn it on.
Illustrative question: "Joy marks customers as subscribed before our Klaviyo confirmation email goes out. How do we stop that?" Turn this setting on. Joy leaves the status to Klaviyo and rewards the customer after they confirm.
How to access and use
Step 1: Open the Newsletter rule
In Joy, choose Reward programs > Earning programs and open Sign up newsletters.
Step 2: Turn the setting on
Tick Let another app manage email marketing consent, next to the sync option. It saves on its own and applies to your whole store.
Step 3: Check what customers see
The Newsletter card keeps its reward but loses the tick box and Subscribe button. The Email marketing switch in the widget Profile and the newsletter box in Referral are hidden.
